1. If I'm from out of town and will be recording at Retro City for an extended period of time. Where can I stay?
We are currently looking into on site lodging for artists, but in the meantime there are plenty of hotels/motels within a few miles of the studio. Fortunately we are located in a major city (the best in our opinion) where there are plenty of great places to eat and fun things to do!
2. I got directions from my GPS or yahoo/google/mapquest that have me going through center city or down Roosevelt Blvd. Should I use these?
No! Following directions from any of the aforementioned sites is confusing, takes twice as long and is not very enjoyable. We will be happy to provide directions that are fast, easy to understand and actually take you on a pleasant drive. Just give us a call. :)
3. If I book time at the studio does it come with an engineer or is that a separate cost?
Our basic rates include full use of the studio, access to all musical equipment and an engineer.
4. I have my own producer/engineer that I would like to bring in for my time at Retro City. Is that an option?
Sure, plenty of artists have a personal producer/engineer that they feel comfortable using. We require only that one of our house engineers is present in case of any questions or problems that may arise.
5. Do you require deposits? How much and why?
Yes we do. If an artist cancels last minute or simply doesn't show up we lose valuable recording time. It is common practice to require a deposit to help avoid these situations. Please mail in, drop off, or deliver in person 30% of your total time booked at the studio. This money will be applied directly to your total bill at the end of your session.
6. What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand that problems can arise, and we are willing to work with you in emergency situations, however, deposits are non refundable unless the session is canceled with 30 days advanced notice. You may reschedule a session, but only when time becomes available on our calendar.
7. What types of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, personal check, money orders and most major credit cards.
8.What is the studio's procedure for load in, start time, etc...?
Most of that information depends on what the artist and engineer work out prior to the session. We do allow some time for loading in if you arrive early, but the clock will start at the time that you and the engineer settled on, whether you are there or not, so be punctual!
-If you have any questions or still feel unclear about any of our policies please feel free to contact us. After all, Retro City is made up of musicians who understand how stressful it can be preparing and recording music, so we realize how important it is to feel comfortable throughout the process.
